TOLD NEWSLETTER – June 18, 2018

For everyone wondering what is happening to the Micro Business Party (MBP), which was always a strong supporter of the Taxi industry, I can assure you that the party is more active than ever. On June 11th, I had the chance to have a conversation (re: taxi industry) with the Premier, Mark McGowan and the Deputy Premier Roger Cook. To my astonishment, both of them knew very little of what is going on within the industry. They were unaware and misinformed about some of the details regarding the taxi industry reforms, mainly:

• The Premier himself thought the minimum compensation payment is 120K

• He was convinced that the Minister of Transport, Rita Saffioti, met us after the announcement was made

• He did not know that 90% of owners were offered only 100K compensation

• He was not aware about the report prepared by Ernst & Young, and presented to the Government, report which very clearly shows how flawed the buy-back proposal, prepared by Tony Buti and David Hay-Hendry, is.

Following the brief conversation with both politicians, I sent a letter in which I described the current situation with the taxi industry. I also requested a meeting between the Deputy Premier and TOLD representatives.   I am awaiting his response.

The MBP has also sent registered letters to the Members of Parliament on marginal seats. To see these letters, please go to microbusinessparty.org.au and click on News &Media, then go to MBP articles.

Latest appointment

The TOLD Directors (P. Martin and S. Samra) have appointed Peter Rosengrave as a new Director, the below is Peter’s testimony:

As a newly appointed TOLD director I want to assure everyone that it is my best intention to combat the destructive actions perpetrated by the Government against the Taxi industry. Seeing firsthand the distressed drivers waiting over 3 hours at the airport to get a job and the complete inaction of the authorities in response to this catastrophic situation has prompted me to become a TOLD director and help to reverse this undeserved situation and do WHATEVER IT TAKES to make politicians to listen.

A long-time of relatively undisruptive and humble actions by our industry has only landed us with a more hostile attitude towards us – the rightful and legal operators, than towards the illegals and unlawfully operators.

In addition, to satisfy the currently still ILLEGALY OPERATED TAXI DISPACH COMPANIES, a government bureaucrat from the Minister’s office, with the stoke of a pen and no consideration of the consequences to those in the industry, has crossed out the 4 year moratorium on the number of taxis and announced the immediate deregulation of our industry within the next few months.  This will be a disaster for taxi industry and will destroy the lives of many hardworking career taxi owners and drivers.
